You May have Noticed...A New Background?

Noticed? Noticed what? Okay, I've changed the blog once again. I mentioned in the last post I could not stand the spread. I did not even want to visit my own blog. So, I changed things up a bit. I put up this background by following the directions from Blogger Templates and Blog help in the post: How to add a background picture in blogger.

I was thinking about using a pyzam template, as I had in the past, but I could not find one I really liked. Additionally, the pyzam templates are full screen images with a tiny, I think 660px wide, blog area. Knowing this, and hating messing with width adjustments, the background idea came up.

I was working on the fish blog template. Like Inspired, it had some real formatting issues. I understand all computer monitors are different so I want to have my blogs look right per the monitor viewing it. I remembered the new blog I built for SR fit just right in the old monitor and it seemingly adjusts for the new monitor perfectly. However, I found only a few of the static Blogger templates do this.

I grabbed my texture from GRSites and hosted it on Photobucket, then I followed the background image instructions linked above.

This new computer has really got me wanting to do a whole bunch of different things...I wonder if I have time for it all?

  1. Oh my, Muse, I wish I had your courage and techie ability--I'd like to change up my blog, but I'm afraid it'd take me hours AND I might lose the whole mugullah! I like the new background, by the way, and the print is lovely.

  2. Thanks Conda!

Well, I have to say, I gained courage by building a tester blog to try things out on and by ensuring to back up my templates before I change them.

I've actually been doing it for years on my eBay blog, but until recently I have not had the urge to put my own stamp on blogger's templates.

This background is one of my favorites. I have it up on my me page. It reminds me of old burned paper.

    See you soon!

  3. Whew! Another change! One of these days when I have more time...like maybe when I get back from Afghanistan...I'll be redoing my blogs too.

    Lookin' Good!

  4. Hey J.L!

I just can't help myself. At least I've gotten over re-arranging the furniture once a month.

I may be tweaking the color on this background though. Some of the dark spots are too dark.

    Have a good weekend!

  5. I love it! At first I thought it was from a cave painting.
I admire your courage in making changes and staying up to date with new media. And I appreciate your sharing your techniques. When I get time and courage on the same day, I'll check out your site for tips.

  6. Hi Kathy!

The more I work with html, the easier it gets. Of course checking out other blog tips helps a lot with finding exactly where the code must be placed. Yours would be easy to change, I'm using the same template you have now. I had a lot of trouble with the other template I had up (minima dark).

    Have a great weekend!

  7. Muse:

Wow, it sure popped up in my face as soon as I opened the page. Big format with easy to read type. Of course, everything on the right hand of the page is right justified. That looks a little strange at first, but it's okay.

You are certainly a lot braver than I am. I would dare to upset my template. I'm an HTML chicken.

    Happy trails.

  8. Hey Swu!

They say bigger is better, right? Personally I could barely read the old font, so I made it big.

I couldn't change the justification on the right side. I couldn't find the code. I think blogger has that pre-set.

    Have a good one!

  9. Hi! You're certainly one heck of an adventurous girl, good on you! Yes, it can be a bit of a pain getting a new template to work the way you want it to but in the end it's all worth it!

We have Vista and it's a pain in the bum! I hope Windows 7 is a whole lot better when it comes out.

As for related posts, which way did you go to put it in action?

    Take Care,
    Peter

  10. Ah Peter, that was a pain. I tried several different codes before I found one that worked on all my blogs. Then the little plus sign quit working and I had to host it on my own account. (I suppose I could have done away with it).

Anyway, I followed the second set of instructions in this post: http://anshuldudeja.blogspot.com/2009/03/related-posts-widget-for-blogger.html

Then I hosted my own image and changed the code to reflect my image code to eliminate some "upgrade to pro" text overlays from the original script.

I'm so glad it's finally working.

Good luck with it on yours!
